Watching your baby grow in your womb is a unique and exciting experience; it is the first time you will meet your future child…

Dr. Roee Birnbaum graduated from the University of Tel Aviv medical school and specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Lis Maternity Hospital, Ichilov, Tel Aviv. After completing his specialization, Dr. Birnbaum received further training in ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis at Gazlini Children's Hospital in northern Italy.

Today, Dr. Birnbaum is a senior physician in the obstetric ultrasound department at Lis Hospital, Ichilov, and conducts research in fetal development, specifically fetal brain development, and is a guest lecturer at international conferences.

Each period during the pregnancy consists of a specific stage in fetal development. Using the ultrasound, we can observe and verify the proper development of the fetusand its various systems.

To get the most information regarding the development of your baby throughout the pregnancy, I recommend having the ultrasound scan at several stages during the pregnancy, as follows: the Nuchal Translucency test, together with an initial anatomical evaluation of the fetal systems performed during weeks 12-13 of the pregnancy, an early detailed review of the fetal systems performed during weeks 14-16 of the pregnancy, late anatomy scan of the fetal systems performed during 22-24pregnancy weeks, and an additional assessment of the development of the fetus during the last trimester, which emphasis fetal brain development, during weeks 30 -32 of the pregnancy.

The ultrasounds are performed either externally via the abdomen or vaginally using two-dimensional imaging, three-dimensional imaging, Doppler imaging (i.e. for studying the blood flow in the blood vessels and heart), as needed.

It is essential for me that the first meeting between you and your baby be exciting, pleasant, and accompanied by a clear, thorough, and easy to understand explanation about your baby's development.
